We are seeking a compassionate, professional, and self-motivated individual to support people in Wester Hailes living with long-term health conditions, helping them to improve their mental health and wellbeing. 

Freelance Contract 
7 hours a week (for 40 weeks per year) 
£22 per hour 
Based at WHALE Arts Centre, Wester Hailes, Edinburgh, EH14 2SA 
Fixed term to August 2026 

WHALE Arts is a community-led arts charity and social enterprise based in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh. Our vision is for a creative, thriving, resilient community. We provide access to inspiring creative opportunities, working in partnership with local people and artists to support community-led development through the arts. 

We are looking for a trauma-informed, empathetic Wellbeing Coach to deliver both one-to-one and group-based support in our Coorie Café sessions. You’ll work alongside our friendly team to support individuals to build resilience, increase self-awareness, and improve overall wellbeing. 

This role is suited to someone who is passionate about community wellbeing, understands the challenges of living with long-term health conditions, and is skilled in encouraging and empowering others. 

Supported by the Self-Management Fund, administered by The ALLIANCE on behalf of the Scottish Government 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Provide one-to-one and group support sessions using a trauma-informed approach. 
  • Facilitate a weekly drop-in group session (3 hours), one-to-one sessions (3 hours), and complete related admin (1 hour). 
  • Help individuals identify and achieve personalised outcomes. 
  • Use self-management tools and wellbeing resources to promote independence and resilience. 
  • Signpost participants to relevant services and local opportunities. 
  • Work collaboratively with WHALE Arts staff and external partners. 
  • Maintain accurate records, contribute to case management, and support evaluation. 
  • Uphold professional boundaries, confidentiality, and data protection standards. 
  • Manage health and safety risks and report concerns appropriately. 
  • Attend team meetings and supervision and contribute to ongoing service development. 

We’re looking for someone who: 

  • Has experience working with people with long-term health conditions or mental health challenges. 
  • Is confident working one-to-one and in group settings. 
  • Understands trauma-informed and rights-based approaches. 
  • Is compassionate, reflective, and committed to promoting choice and independence. 
  • Is skilled in communication, building trust, and assessing individual needs. 
  • Can manage their workload independently while contributing to a team culture. 
  • Is confident using digital tools for communication and record-keeping. 
  • Has a strong understanding of data protection, confidentiality, and professional boundaries. 

Desirable 

  • Lived experience of managing a long-term condition or mental health challenge. 
  • Experience facilitating peer support or community wellbeing groups. 
  • Knowledge of local referral pathways and support services.
