Welcome to WHALE Arts’ VHS Archive. As the cultural arts organization for Wester Hailes, WHALE Arts has been collecting VHS tapes since the early 1990s. The tapes were digitized by Chris Dooks in 2017 as part of a larger Heritage Lottery Funded project called Wester Hailes: Your Story, Our Story. The project was managed by Meghan Bidwell, Arts Engagement Manager (Adults). Craig Tyrie, Digital Sentinel, supported the development of a dedicated webpage.
The archive is small but interesting and which features community events, news clips and performances. The films can be viewed below or via this website or our YouTube channel.
Since many of these works were intended for small screenings, there was liberal use of copyrighted music in the clips. YouTube’s automatic copyright engine has blocked two of the films since the upload. If you have a particular interest in viewing anything that has become blocked by YouTube, please contact WHALE Arts on info@whalearts.co.uk for a viewing in-situ.
