The Creative Community Hubs Charter

Respect. Listen. Nurture. Share. Invest. Act.

The Hubs Charter is a living document shaped by the voices, values, and visions of the Creative Community Hubs Network. Its origins stretch back to the very beginning of the Network, 3.5 years ago, and the foundational research we carried out with members—culminating in the Working Better Together report and the How We Would Like It to Be poster.

Since then, we’ve continued the conversation through a series of workshops—exploring our values, imagining our collective future, and setting shared priorities. This Charter is the result of that ongoing dialogue.

The Charter

This Charter is a work in progress—co-developed with and for members of the Creative Community Hubs Network. It’s an open invitation to external partners to align with our values before beginning any collaboration.

Each Hub may adopt the Charter in their own way—through signed agreements, website displays, email signatures, or everyday practice. As a Network, we’re still exploring how to embed the Charter most effectively across our work.

We invite you to read, reflect, and engage.

Let’s build better partnerships. Let’s work better together.

Celebrating Our Charter Across the City

In July 2025, we took the Creative Community Hubs Charter out into public space—displayed across the city in partnership with Jack Arts and designed by local artist Maddie Lennon. One of the key sites was a takeover spot in Fountainbridge, alongside other locations that gave the Charter a visible presence across Edinburgh.

This was a chance to share the Charter more widely—bringing the values and priorities shaped by the Network into the everyday spaces where people live and move. It marked a new stage in the Charter’s journey: from workshops and conversations to something visible, public, and ready to be engaged with.

A big thank you to Jim at Jack Arts for supporting this project, and to Maddie for turning the Charter into a striking, accessible design that captures both the complexity and clarity of what we’ve built together.

Launching the Charter

In April 2025, we officially launched the Charter at Duncan Place Community Hub, a celebration of the creativity, care, and collective power that has shaped this document from day one.

A Creative, Collaborative Process

In February 2025, we held a hands-on workshop to co-create the first iteration of the Charter. Each Network member created a 15-minute poster that reflected how we want to work in partnership, what we value about the Network, and our hopes for its future.

Together, we then cut, ripped, and collaged these posters—merging our ideas and languages into collective visuals using risoprinting. These posters formed the basis for this Charter and continue the conversation begun in Working Better Together.
