A taste of the Edinburgh Festivals without getting on a bus...
The Big West Fest is our on site festival, programmed to coincide with the other Edinburgh Festivals in August. The programme of performances and events is for adults (over 16) and everyone is welcome to take part. For those people who don't take part in the city centre festivals, this is your chance to access some culture without leaving your own community.
All events are FREE but you might need to book ahead. Give us a call or pop in to make sure you get a seat.

Wester Hailes: Breaking News - Photography Exhibition
Thursday 5th August, 5.00pm to 7.00pm
Look back at the history of this 40 year old community, as captured by the photographers of the Wester Hailes Sentinel and West Edinburgh Times. See if you can spot any familiar faces in these images of some of the key events and community members over the decades, as collected by the Wester Hailes Lives project. Also exhibited - portraits of Edinburgh Folk by Dalry photographer Josie O’Toole.
Quadrille by Moving Parts
Saturday 7th August, 7.30pm
Four captivating stories. One extraordinary night. Sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. When four strangers realise what they have in common the mystery unfolds in this visually stunning piece which exudes the excitement and danger of the city.

Rod Jones plays songs from his album ‘A Sentimental Education’ for residents and workers. Rod’s gentle folk style is perfect for a relaxed lunchtime. Bring your own sandwiches!

Are you a musician or learner living in South West Edinburgh? Whatever instrument you play and whatever level you’re at, you’re welcome at this taster workshop. You’ll get a chance to play with Rod and to find out more about the South West Sounds project.
Trouble Sleeping - Film Screeening
Wednesday 11th August, 7.30pm
Trouble Sleeping tells the story of a Palestinian refugee, Ahmed, about to be deported from the UK and forced to return to the Middle East which is fraught with danger. Halla knows a secret which can save him but the cost of revealing that secret will be terrible. Filmed in Sighthill and across Edinburgh and based on the true stories of refugees in Scotland.
Chattering Chapters - Meet the Author Event
Thursday 12th August, 2.30pm to 4.30pm
Our Chattering Chapters Book Group host this Meet the Author event and are pleased to welcome Sophie Cooke to WHALE Arts. Based in Edinburgh, Sophie has had two novels published: The Glass House (nominated for the Saltire First Book of the Year ) and Under the Mountain. She joins the group to introduce them to her novels and to share her experiences as a published writer. This event is open to everyone. CRECHE AVAILABLE.
South West Sounds Big Launch Gig

This gig launches the South West Sounds project in style with sets from ROD JONES and his band PLUS guests, including

Why not take a risk and see what you can get for FREE at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe? Lots of comedy and fun as you make your way round the town. The West Edinburgh Time Bank Theatre Group are leading this trip, so get in touch with us and we’ll tell you how to sign up.
Ceilidh Dance

We’re celebrating the end of a fabulous week, so come and party with us! MINNOW ceilidh band will be leading the dancing so come and take a turn on the dance floor. No bar, but you can bring your own bottle. (Under 18s with an adult only)
