Parallel Lives

     with the National Galleries of Scotland

A project to explore a piece of art from the National Galleries of Scotland collection and what it means to us today. Work with artist Craig McLean to create a brand new work of art that expresses your thoughts about Wester Hailes and our vision for the future.

All adults welcome (16+). No experience necessary.

Childhood Games

     A Stills Gallery Video Project

 
A unique opportunity for grandparents to work with their grandchildren on an art project using state of the art digital video equipment. Based on the theme of ‘Childhood Games’, work over two weekends at WHALE and at Stills to make your own film and enjoy creating something together.

For Grandparents and their Grandchildren

(8 to 12 years old). Places are for pairs only.

No experience of the technology is necessary.

Dates: 1, 2, 8 and 9 March (Saturdays and Sundays) 

Times: 3 hour workshops (times to be decided)

For Adults                                                           

Lady Bugs 

Dancing for women aged 40+. A ‘gentle jazz’ class for all abilities giving you a chance to get fit and relax.

Dates: 11 February to 17 March

Times: Mondays, 1.00 - 2.00    

 

Dates: 8 April to 13 May

Times: Tuesdays, 3.00 - 4.00

Access to Creative Arts

This award-winning 18 week vocational course is designed for people taking their first steps back into College or employment and is delivered in partnership with Stevenson College. The course offers an introduction to a variety of Creative Arts subjects including photography, media, IT skills, drama, video, radio and music.  You will study eight SVQ units, normally at Intermediate levels 1 and 2.  Students receive additional study support as well as help with essential communication skills.

Art Attack

An introduction to art course delivered in partnership with Telford College giving a first taste of visual arts in a weekly class. A fully inclusive course suitable for people with additional learning needs.

You can join any time

Times: 1.00pm till 3.00pm, Mondays                    NO FEE

 

Computing for Beginners

Telford college provide tutors for two levels of computer training - Beginners Computing and the European Computer Driving License. Complete beginners and the more advanced learner can be catered for.

Dance Leadership  Training

For  16 - 25 year olds

If you are an experienced dancer, you have the opportunity to work with WHALE and Edinburgh Leisure towards a Dance Leadership award. Linking in with our own dance classes, you will have the opportunity to learn how to run your own dance classes.

For Children and Young People                                                                              

Mini Movers

A chance for parents and children to dance and have fun together. For children under eight with a parent. Great fun for kids and adults!  (In collaboration with ‘Mini Movers’)

Dates: 8 February to 16 May 2008

Times: Friday,1.30 - 2.30        

£2 per pair per session

 

Dance!

For girls aged 8 to 16 (with a few places for boys). A fun opportunity to shake your thing, whether you’ve never danced before or have loads of experience. Taught by Vicky Farnworth, tutor at Dance Base.
